PHM142 - Student Presentations

Class Presentations:

Students groups (maximum of 4 students/group) whom wish to give a short 10 minute student presentation for a bonus mark of up to 4%, may do so by signing up for a given topic on the PHM142 STUDENT SIGN-UP SHEET. Note that student presentations are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.

All students are encouraged to study these presentations as they form components of the mid-term and final exams. Be sure to utilize only on referenced sources of information, (textbooks, Pubmed, etc.) as some E-sources can be unreliable (Wikipedia is one noted example). Presentations will be strictly limited to 10 minutes and are typically given in the form of a powerpoint presentation, however other formats are also acceptable. Be sure to place all key points of your presentation on a final summary slide. Presentations will typically being given in the form of a PowerPoint presentation (only *.ppt format supported), but students are strongly encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to relay the topic. Be sure to place all key points of your presentation on a final summary slide.

Each presentation must CLEARLY indicate, the proper (registered) NAMES of the group member, the TITLE of their presentation and their listed SIGNUP date to receive credit. Students may use a variety of materials in their presentations; however the key points of their presentation should be listed in point form on the final (summary) page of their presentation. Presentations selected to be used as part of the examination will be made available to all students on the course website.

Presentations will be examined for research quality, accuracy, presentation style, and comprehension of the topic and assigned for a maximum score 100 = +4%). Remember to include CITATIONS for all research materials presented, and to include a 1 page SUMMARY page for your presentation. To get an idea of how to present your topic you may wish to look at EXAMPLE PRESENTATIONS here and under the course homepage.

Given the unusual mode of course delivery for Fall 2020, Student Presentation sign-up dates refer to the date at which a given groups presentation is DUE (10 AM of date indicated). For convenience completed presentations can be submitted remotely to the following site: https://www.dropbox.com/request/SnmwGxqOR2uEUjkgMySV
Corrected presentations will subsequently be posted below. Grades (0-4%) should be posted ~1 week following the submission date.

Note 2:
Questions regarding recording of presentations: Students may record using a variety of Freeware tools including OBS Studio, Zoom, Powerpoint (usage example here), etc. Final output should be MP4 format which we will then post as a .zip file.

Note 3:
STUDENT PRESENTATIONS: Note that with respect to SUMMARY sheets, these can be placed WITHIN the presentation - no need for submission of a separate sheet. Note also that there is no need to submit a SEPARATE set of PowerPoint slides with your submission.
